I can’t believe the semester is over already! I’m so sad but I have learned so much from this class. I went into it knowing it was going to be hard work and it was. But the assignments we did were fun, which made all of the work worth it. During the first week of the class, I felt overwhelmed by the amount of work we had to do. But as I started to get the ball rolling with the assignments, I felt more confident that I could succeed in this class.
I think my favorite type of media is video. It took a lot longer to complete the assignments than I originally anticipated, but I got to watch videos all day which made it a lot easier.
The final project was harder than I anticipated. I had a lot of trouble coming up with a story line. I didn’t want to do something boring or already taken so I thought about my life dreams as a child and I had always wanted to be an Olympian. I thought it was creative and I knew how I could use my skating stories to my advantage.
On Wednesday, I think WordPress had a little hiccup in the system. It wouldn’t let me publish any of my posts and I got really frustrated. I have been having some computer issues and I thought it was my computer’s fault. Then, I received an email from WordPress saying that there was a problem with my site. I decided to give my computer, and my blog, a break before things got worse. Luckily everything was up and running again when I returned to my computer an hour later.
I had a hard time coming up with my second assignment. I couldn’t think of anything creative. I tried looking online for inspiration but couldn’t find anything that I felt confident doing. I took a break and turned on the TV; and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was on. At the beginning of the show, each of the stars have a tagline and I thought that would make a perfect audio assignment.
If I had to do something differently, I would change the quality of my pictures in my final project. The pixels were really big which caused the picture to seem blurry. Originally, I didn’t want to use that picture but I couldn’t find anything else on the internet that was what I was looking for.
Overall, I don’t think society gives enough credit to video editors, photographers or anyone in the visual arts. Everyone thinks, that’s easy and that they can do it too. At least for me, that’s what I thought. Now, I admire the people who do things like that because now I know how much time and effort goes into every single thought and/or decision made when creating a piece of art.
My only question is, are there anymore classes like this I could take at UMW? I’m a digital studies minor and would love to take more classes that allows me to be hands on in creating things online.
Thank you for a wonderful semester. I hope I can take more classes from you in the near future.
